General information

Turkey (the Republic of Turkey) is a republic which straddles two continents. The European part in the north-west of Turkey (Eastern Thrace) accounts for about 3 % of the country’s total landmass. Anatolia, the Asian part of the country, accounts for around 97 % of the total territory. Turkey, with its 814,578 square kilometres (about two and a half times the size of Germany) is home to about 78.7 million people.

The capital city is Ankara. The official language in Turkish.
